SLA activities in Northeast on 4 May 2006

SLA shoots and kills seven civilians traveling in two three-wheelers

Seven friends traveling in two three-wheelers for a gathering of friends, were shot and killed by SLA as the friends passed an SLA intelligence wing camp in Navindil, Nelliadi in Jaffna. The incident occurred around 2.30 pm in the afternoon on 4 May 2006. The dead bodies lay in the street for several hours before the police and judge arrived.

The bodies were taken to the hospital for the postmortem. After the postmortem, SLA refused to release the seven bodies to the families unless the families sign a statement saying the friends were members of the LTTE.

The names of the seven friends killed are, Selvaraja Suman (22), Velupillai Nimalan (21), Nagaratnam Naguleswaran (18)Balachandran Krishanthan (18), Thamodarampillai Sharmilan (17), Navaratnaraja Nasanna (19).

SLA shoots and kills a civilian in Maruthanarmadam in Jaffna

SLA opened fire randomly at civilians in Marathanarmadam in Jaffna on the morning of 4 May 2006. One man was killed. His body lay in the spot until noon because SLA did not permit anyone into the street after the shooting. The dead man is yet to be identified.

SLA closed several roads after the shooting forcing travelers to take long detours.

Bodies found in Vavuniya identified

The three dead bodies found in Cheddikulam in Vavuniya on 3 May have been identified. They are, R Nages of Pampankulam, S Jeyanesan of Periyakomarasankulam, and S Sivalingam of Palampiddi.

Demand to release female Tamil journalist arrested in Colombo

A female Tamil journalist, Sivanandan Sivaramya, who was arrested by SLA on 3 May as she was entering the international free media celebration in Colombo is still being detained. It is worth noting that Sivaramya works as an announcer at the State Broadcasting Media.

Accusations has been leveled that the only reason Sivaramya is being detained is because she is a Tamil. Supporters of free media have called on the GoSL to release her without delay if she is found not guilty of anything.

Blasts in Mannar strikes fear among people

Two blasts one after the other heard near Mannar town made the fear stricken people to disperse in all directions. Mannar town was emptied within minutes. SLA that arrived soon told the people the blasts were from the exercises they were conducting.
